Challenge:  Develop and subsequently instruct a workshop to improve the visual communication skills of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in HRS 2706/1706 – Introduction to Rehabilitation Engineering Design at the University of Pittsburgh.

Process:  Dr. Jon Pearlman approached me to develop and instruct an eight week drawing workshop that would prepare students to quickly sketch conceptual mechanical solutions, render refined ideas for concept feedback, and streamline prototyping with an understanding of shop drawings.  During the workshop I demonstrate the essentials of effective visual communication, assist students with proper form and technique, and assign a series of deliverables to reinforce positive sketching habits.
